Alien Lullabies

We listened to the traditional lullaby "Hush Little Baby, don´t you cry" and identified the rhyming couplets. In groups, we wrote our own "Alien Lullabies" and tried our hand at rhyme. At the end of the lesson, Teacher read our poems and then we heard Sue Cowling´s "Alien Lullaby"

Hush, little alien, don't you cry!

Mamma's gonna bake you a moonbeam pie.

And if that moonbeam pie goes stale,

Mamma's gonna catch you a comet's tail.

And if that comet's tail won't flip,

Mamma's gonna make you a rocket ship.

And if that rocket ship won't stay...

Imagine

We read Imagine by Roland Egan and identified rhyming pairs Then we wrote our own version of Imagine. Do you like it?

Monster similes

We have been studying similes in literacy.

Similes compare 2 things using LIKE or AS.

We read "As, as, as... " by Robert Hull. We also read "A Red, red rose" by Robert Burns and "Flint" by Christina Rossetti and we identified similes in those poems.

In groups, we labelled pictures of monsters with our own similes and combined our favourites to make this poem.

AZTEC newspaper articles

"EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about it!"

We have linked our history topic, "The Aztecs", to literacy and we have written newspaper articles on an Aztec human sacrifice.

We tried to include all the features of newspaper articles:

• an "eye catching" headline
• an interesting introduction
• set out in paragraphs and columns
• a photo and caption
• quotes (what people said)
• plenty of facts
