Making dirty water from the Guadalquivir cleaner

In science we´ve been learning about solids and liquids. We´ve also been learning about mixing them and separating them. We made this dirty water cleaner by first removing the biggest particles, like leaves and larger stones with a garden sieve. Next we removed the pebbles with a colander. Then, sand and smaller pebbles with a sieve. We finally removed very fine sand by passing the liquid through filter paper. We decided that it still wasnt safe to drink since it may contain bacteria we couldnt see.

Alien Lullabies

We listened to the traditional lullaby "Hush Little Baby, don´t you cry" and identified the rhyming couplets. In groups, we wrote our own "Alien Lullabies" and tried our hand at rhyme. At the end of the lesson, Teacher read our poems and then we heard Sue Cowling´s "Alien Lullaby"

Hush, little alien, don't you cry!

Mamma's gonna bake you a moonbeam pie.

And if that moonbeam pie goes stale,

Mamma's gonna catch you a comet's tail.

And if that comet's tail won't flip,

Mamma's gonna make you a rocket ship.

And if that rocket ship won't stay...
